About Google stock

Google held its IPO on August 19, 2004 at $85 per share through an unusual Dutch auction. The company reorganised as Alphabet in 2015, and GOOGL is the Class A share with voting rights (GOOG is the non-voting Class C share; they trade at nearly the same price). A 20-for-1 split in 2022 makes early prices look small.

What would $1,000 in Google at the 2004 IPO be worth?+

Does this Google calculator include dividends?+

Yes. All historical figures use GOOGL's adjusted closing price, which accounts for stock splits and assumes every dividend was reinvested on the payment date. This is the standard way to measure total return.

Where does the Google price data come from?+

Historical and live prices for the stock are fetched from a market data feed and cached for one hour, so the numbers on this page track the current market with at most a short delay. The backtest uses daily data for periods under five years and weekly data for longer periods.
